Are you the kind of person, like me, that waits all year for the opportunity to dress up like a slutty orthopedist and eat as much candy corn as you possibly can? That can only mean one thing: Tax season is only 6 months away!
We here at BMR get a general deluge of email this time of year running down various promotions and events centered around Halloween. You may not get as much email as we do, so we thought we’d put together this handy dandy little list so you can get all of your pixel-related candy eating and trick or treating in one spot.
- World of Warcraft has gone out of its way again this year to provide players with the best Halloween experience you can find anywhere in the virtual worlds (you can even find content for the real world here): Find hidden candy, set straw men on fire, play pranks on your favorite players, and even kill the Headless Horseman. If you’re not a regular player, you can sign up for a 10 day free trial and take part in the event. If you are a regular player, you may not know that in around 2 weeks, they’re forcing all players to use Battle.Net to log in.
- Plants Vs. Zombies, one of the better fits for a game to play this holiday season, is ramping it up the right way. First, we found this video, and then it lead us to this page, where we can not only print out sexy masks, but we can decorate our Zombatars with sheets and fangs. Make sure to shamble back over to that site on October 30th, as something special is planned.
- Aion is not without its special events, even if the game is just out of the gate here in America. The lands of Atreia will be celebrating the Harvest Revel with celebratory quests and recipes. All is not well, however, as this is also the time of year that the dead become restless, and the heroes of the realm must gather together and compel them back to their eternal rest.
- Likewise, the land of Hyboria is celebrating the Night of Lost Souls in the Age of Conan. With 2 new solo quests, a new team quest, and special seasonal items (including the Unholy Back Scratcher), it’s probably the best time of year to strap on the loincloth.
- Looking for a great way to make 10 gold for your Hobbit? Try your hand at carving a Lord of the Rings-themed pumpkin! As well as the gold, winners receive a special in-game title to show off to friends and brag to family members that will still never truly understand the unique snowflake that is you.
- Halloween wouldn’t be complete without a bloody moon, or so say the folks over at Champions Online. The Blood Moon event includes new quests, a new PvP map, and more content regarding and Undead Lord and Undead Heroes. I guess we can’t all be dead, eh?
- The folks over at Lineage have been teasing us for weeks now about something related to the holiday. Is it a costume party? Are there new seasonal items to purchase in the marketplace? Something about a pumpkin-headed stranger? I guess you’ll have to log in and find out.
- Not to be outdone, Lineage II is running their own event called Spooks and Scarecrows. Turn your character into a scarecrow and partake in special candy. But, be careful: You have to be level 20 to participate, and these items only last for 30 days.
- Suit up for special quests and a PvP costume brawl over in Guild Wars‘ Halloween 2009 event. Mad King Thorn is set to return again this year, giving out special tasks and special rewards that you get to keep and show off all year.
- The Everquest Marketplace is now the home of special new items you can purchase to expand your repertoire of Halloween pranks. Included are special items to enhance the landscape as well as your avatar.
- Everquest 2 is also getting into the act, with the return of Night of the Dead, an event which includes actual trick or treating, quests, candy, and seasonal costumes.
- A costume party and parade is on the docket for Free Realms. As this is a community event, you can expect more of the seem as the holiday gets closer.
- In the City of Heroes, evil sigils have appeared all over the place, and it’s your job to get rid of them before the hordes of undead overwhelm us all! Seasonal quests and rewards are at hand for those few willing to brave the night.
- In Warhammer Online, you’ll need to find and kill possessed …masks… in order to get your own special masks (presumably, they’ll be lacking the daemon possession at that time). While you’re off fighting evil clothing accessories, you may find other seasonal rewards and weaponry to assist you in your enterprise.
- Special letters will be dropping from monsters all over the land in 4Story, a free to play MMO. Collect these letters together for special prizes. While you’re busy, you can start throwing pumpkins at your friends. Yea, I said it.
- The entirety of the side-scrolling free-to-play MMO Dragonica has received a makeover for Halloween. Within the game, you can find a bunch of new content and quests totally devoted to the holiday.
- Another free-to-play MMO, Runes of Magic, has gone whole-hog for the holiday: The Taborean Pumpkin Festival runs until November 10th, and includes special quests, rewards, and parades.
- Tired of MMOs? Live in the UK? Well, Iceberg Interactive has a treat for you: The Dracula Trilogy drops out of the trees and tries to bite your neck on October 30th.
- Ryzom will be hosting treasure hunts, live events and races from October 30th – November 1st.
- Pizza Morgana will be having a 50% off sale in honor of the holiday.
- Go Trick or Treating in Arad, the land of Dungeon Fighter Online, from October 22nd through November 3rd. Special quests for the holiday season reward you with treats and costumes that you can wear year ’round.
- Play Combat Arms for the week of the 23rd through the 29th, and you could win a special Halloween mask.
- Zombies have invaded! Defend the lands of the Muyu Desert in Mabinogi Dragon.
- In a sequel of sorts, Halloween Story II starts up in Maple Story on the 22nd (lasting until the 24th of November). Check out some new missions and general spookiness from otherwise really cute little avatars.
- Telltale Games is running a contest where you submit “something creative related to one of their games”, and you could win a console, a game, or general kudos.
- Even if you’re not a player of Fallen Earth, you can get a special 15 day trial key to take part in the Days of the Dead event. Not that zombies are really anything special in a game dedicated to killing the undead, but there you have it.
- Trickster Online, another very appropriate game name for the holiday, will have special NPC interactions for the season, including a few ways to get your characters some special treats.
- Grand Chase will be hosting a Smashing Pumpkins game, which has a special PvP mode that allows you to…smash other peoples’ pumpkins.
- In the Austin, Texas area this year? Check out Brittania Manor Mark 2, where your host, Lord British (of Ultima fame) scares you on behalf of Scare for a Cure.
- Conquer Online is hosting special quests and special rewards for the season, including killing the gigantic Pumpkin King.
- Fiesta Online is hosting a cosplay contest, where the winners are judged on how close they can get to looking like their avatars.
- Outspark is also hosting holiday content in their 2d MMO, Secret of the Solstice. Pick up special items and go on special quests only available for a limited time.
- Jabba the Hut is your host for the Galactic Moon Festival in Star Wars: Galaxies. Apparently, he got tired of all the love and life festivals, and naturally, this was the time of the year to host a special counter event.
- Exteel is offering free black and orange paint for your mech over the holiday weekend. Yes, really.
- Final Fantasy XI Online is the scene for furries fighting off …undead furries, I guess. You also get to trick or treat, or something. Yiff.
